So I’m in New York right now and one of the biggest draws to this area this time of year is to see the changing leaves. That is one of my favorite things about fall. All the gorgeous and robust colors make me think I’m Annie Leibovitz. I’m snapping pictures left and right! Now, I don’t really do outside. I am not too keen on bugs, or sweating, or many outside things. That’s just not my steelo. (No, it is not 1990. I’m bringing that word back, btw. Don’t judge me.) And I know when someone is planning a fall getaway to take in some fall foliage, the Great State of Texas is not the first thing that comes to mind. But walk with me, people! Texas actually has some great places to see some amazing views! Even I would consider a little ‘roughing it’ to see some of these spots!
From my research, it seems that your best bet will be to head east for some of the best leave shows. East Texas, specifically Tyler and Highway 14, are famous for their scenic views and driving tours. Nacogdoches and Athens are also good bets. The Athens Department of Tourism has a great interactive map on the website!

Durango, Texas
Your next best bet will be to head to the center of the state. The state parks in Texas are also great places for epic foliage views. Some of the best are Lost Maples State Park right outside of San Antonio in the Texas Hill Country, Caprock Canyon State Park in the panhandle, and Lake Bob Sandlin State Park near Pittsburg, Texas. You can come any of these and see a brilliant spectrum of colors, plus, each park is equipped for activities like hiking and camping.

So pack up your family and pile into the car, or hop on a Preferred Motorcoach Transportation bus, and go check out some of these stunning fall leave shows!
